The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees Wednesday awarded president emeritus status to St. Cloud Technical College President Joan Volkmuth.
Board of Trustees Chair Robert Hoffman said, "President Volkmuth has been a visionary leader. During her nine years as president, she has strengthened the college immensely by adding new programs and overseeing tremendous growth. She is a fine example of the outstanding leadership we have in this system."
President emeritus status is awarded - upon recommendation of the chancellor - to a president or former president who has provided exemplary service, completed at least five years as president of a state university or college and who is retiring from employment with the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system.
Volkmuth's retirement and emeritus status become effective June 30. The new president, Joyce Helens, begins her duties July 1.
The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system comprises 32 state universities and community and technical colleges serving the higher education needs of Minnesota. The system serves about 240,000 students per year in credit-based courses and an additional 130,000 students in non-credit courses.
