Chancellor McCormick's contract extended by Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees

Chancellor James H. McCormick may serve until Aug. 31, 2009, under a 12-month contract extension approved Wednesday by the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees.
"Chancellor McCormick has exceeded our expectations," Board Chair Robert Hoffman said. "After four years as the top leader of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, he has established an exceptional record. He continues to find new ways for the system to support and strengthen economic development, from the state's main street businesses to global industries. Above all, he cares deeply about improving services and educational programs so students have the best educational experience possible."
The board also awarded McCormick a 3.75 percent pay increase, bringing his annual salary from $262,500 to $272,344.
McCormick, 67, was the founding chancellor of the State System of Higher Education for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania before assuming his position July 2, 2001, as head of the Minnesota system. McCormick and his wife, Dr. Maryan Garner McCormick, live in Woodbury.
The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system comprises 32 state universities and community and technical colleges serving the higher education needs of Minnesota. The system serves about 240,000 students per year in credit-based courses and an additional 130,000 students in non-credit courses.
