Kevin Kopischke recommended as Alexandria Technical College president

Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Chancellor James H. McCormick said today he will recommend that the Board of Trustees appoint Kevin Kopischke as president of Alexandria Technical College in Alexandria, Minnesota. The chancellor's recommendation will be considered by the Board of Trustees at its April 21 meeting.
Kopischke, 52, has served as vice president for Alexandria Technical College since 1991, responsible for the college's customized and contract training, marketing and management programs, new program development and external relations. Previously he served as vice president for Brainerd Technical College from 1986 to 1991.
"Dr. Kopischke has distinguished himself as a very positive, collaborative and creative leader who works hard and works effectively for the betterment of the college and the system," McCormick said. "His dedication to students and to responding to the needs of employers is extraordinary."
Kopischke holds a doctorate in education from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. He earned a master's degree in educational administration and leadership and a bachelor's degree in marketing education from St. Cloud State University. Kopischke also earned a two-year degree from the University of Minnesota-Crookston in hotel and restaurant management.
Alexandria Technical College serves about 3,500 students annually in credit-based courses and provides customized contract training to approximately 80 employers each year. The college operates the state's most advanced manufacturing automation technology training center and offers two year degrees in law enforcement, nursing, communication arts and many other programs. In 1996, the college became the first educational institution in Minnesota to earn the gold award from the Minnesota Council for Quality.
If appointed by the board this month, Kopischke will become president June 1, replacing interim president Jan Mahoney.
