The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees this week named Colleen Thompson president of Ridgewater College with campuses in Hutchinson and Willmar.
Thompson has been interim president of Ridgewater since August 1998 following the departure of Mary Retterer.
In appointing Thompson, the board followed the recommendation of Morris J. Anderson, chancellor of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities. Anderson consulted with faculty, students, staff and community representatives on the process of filling Ridgewater's presidency on a permanent basis. Thompson received favorable recommendations from these groups.
Thompson has been with Ridgewater College since 1970 as an administrator, instructor and dean of instruction. She has served as vice president of academic affairs since 1997 in addition to her interim appointment.
THompson has a master's degree from St. Cloud State University and a bachelor's degree from the College of St. Catherine.
